Peanut Blossoms

1-3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

1 unbeaten egg

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 package milk chocolate candy kisses

Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Cream together the shortening, peanut butter, and sugars. Add the egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Blend in dry ingredients gradually. Mix thoroughly. Shape by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Roll in sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and place a solid milk chocolate candy kiss on top of each cookie, pressing down so that cookie cracks around the edge. Return to oven; bake 2 to 5 minutes longer. Makes 3 dozen.
