My name is Denise Zlater and I am a wife and mother of three, daughters Mindy, Jacquie and Jenny and eleven grandchildren Austin, Jacob, Michael, Kiera, Philip, Mackenzie, Nathanael, Bella, Tristan, Jack, and Ryan. I’ve been happily married since 1970 to Bill the love of my life. We traveled the U.S. and abroad while Bill was in the Marine Corp and now live in Locust Grove VA 75 miles SW of Washington DC where I work for the Federal Government.

Back when my daughters started to leave home and marry they were always asking how I made some of our family favorite dishes.  That is when I started a word document to create a “Family Cookbook”.  Since then it has expanded to a document with over 40 pages of recipes…some tried and true family favorites and now many new recipes that I find on Facebook or elsewhere that I want to save.  Recently my daughter Jacquie decided I needed to take it “On-Line” and she set up this Blog.

We are fortunate that all our children and grandchildren live within a 30 mile radius of our home.  Most weekends will find us sharing evening meals with our girls, son-in-laws and grandkids.  Now that the girls are grown they do most of the cooking and I sit back in my rocking chair in the breakfast nook and watch the activity.   I am very blessed to have three daughters who are GREAT cooks.   And now the older grandkids are starting to get interesting in cooking as well.

I hope you enjoy the blog and try some of our favorite recipes.  Bon Appétit!

  1. Love your blog and the recipes, I’m from Scotland and think its great that recipes can be shared across the world via blogs! I have a 5 year old daughter and she too is showing an interest in cooking!
