Self-Filled Cupcake

1 pkg devil food cake mix (18.5 oz)

1 8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened

1/3 cup sugar

1 egg

dash of salt

1 6 oz pkg semi-sweet choc. Chips

Preheat oven 350. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Spoon batter into paper lined muffin pans, filling 2/3 full.

Combine cream cheese and sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add egg and salt, beating well. Stir in chocolate chips. Spoon 1 heaping teaspoon of cream cheese mixture into center of each cupcake. Bake for 10 minutes; remove to wire rack to completely cool. Makes 2 1/2 dozen. Can ice with can chocolate frosting if desired.
